What you will find

Endure the tiring climb and reap the benefits: Vasari’s breathtaking Last Judgment and a jaw-dropping view of Florence will be waiting for you at the top.

"A structure so great, rising above the skies, large enough to cover all of Tuscany in its shadow,” as Leon Battista Alberti defines it, fittingly capturing its colossal size, especially for Renaissance Florentines. Visible from every corner of the city, Brunelleschi’s Dome is the heart and symbol of Florence (the largest masonry dome ever built), and is widely considered the most important structure built in Europe since Roman times.

Construction began in 1418, led by Filippo Brunelleschi, who designed an innovative double shell that eliminated the need for traditional construction supports. This remarkable innovation, allowing for the massive structure to sustain itself, is still today a widespread subject of study. The dome was completed in 1436, while the lantern and copper ball crowned with the cross were added in 1468.

The best way to explore Brunelleschi’s Dome is undoubtedly in the air. Climb the 463 steps to enjoy visionary views of art and Florence.

Price: € 15

From 1 November 2016, the entrance to Brunelleschi’s Dome is only possible with MANDATORY RESERVATIONS, even for Firenzecard holders (available space is not guaranteed). The ticket is valid until midnight of the 6th day starting from the day of purchase. Access to monuments is permitted for 48 hours following the visit to the first monument.
