For Florence: The 1966 Flood Through Zeffirelli’s Eyes

Exhibitions

Sixty years after the flood that struck Florence on 4 November 1966, the Franco Zeffirelli Foundation dedicates a documentary exhibition to one of the most significant chapters of the Maestro’s civic commitment.

From 4 to 29 November 2026, the Zeffirelli Museum will host For Florence. Franco Zeffirelli’s Tribute to His City, an exhibition that retraces, through original materials preserved in the Zeffirelli Archive, the director’s decisive role in the hours and days following the disaster, leading to the creation of the documentary Per Firenze.

Photographs, letters, documents, press coverage and personal testimonies reveal how Franco Zeffirelli transformed the language of cinema into an extraordinary instrument of international solidarity, helping bring the tragedy of Florence to the attention of the world.

Throughout the exhibition, the special film Per Firenze will also be screened.
