A few kilometres from Florence, among the rolling hills, the tall cypress trees, and against the background of mountain peaks and passes, stretches the territory of the Mugello. 

A wonderful land where it is possible to practice outdoor activities of various kinds such as hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, nature activities, and water sports in the enchanting Bilancino Lake in Barberino del Mugello.

Yummy Food
Definitely unforgettable, the Mugello valley means great food. Of substance, genuineness and quality, the typical Mugello dishes are many and renowned. the most delicious and famous is the “tortelli di patate”, made with beef, duck, rabbit, wild boar or mushroom sauce, accompanied with red wines. This land is full of bio products: cheeses, milk, potatoes and meat, without forgetting Mr. Marrone del Mugello PGI.


We are in a valley with villages, medieval castles, rivers, lakes, sacred buildings. The most important are the Pieve di Sant'Agata which stands in the homonymous village, the Museum of Sacred Art "Beato Angelico" located at Vicchio aimed to protect and preserve the religious art of the Vicchio and Mugello territory. Here you find artworks such as the terracotta statue of "San Giovanni Battista", a "Madonna with child" and a panel depicting the "Virgin with Saints and Prophets". 

What about a different route? The Giotto’s house, located at Vespignano, Vicchio area, offers to visitors a blend of emotions concerning Giotto's life and his experiences as a painter and architect, while on the upper floor travelers can admire exhibitions and art workshops.

Water Sports
The largest artificial lake in Tuscany, the Lago del Bilancino with an area of five square kilometers increases the water supply of Florence, Prato and Pistoia. Located within the municipal territory of Barberino di Mugello. Above the landscape, the lake has a significant architectural value and allows the performance of numerous aquatic activities like bathing, canoeing, kayaking, sailing, windsurfing!

For beginners, from March to November, it’s possible to do guided lake exploration or choose to spend an outdoor day off through the Mugello hills.
