Florence, the capital of art and culture, hosts dance shows and events that attract thousands of dance enthusiasts to the city. Every year, spectators are fascinated by the spectacular elegance of high-level dance in the Renaissance setting. Here's the calendar of the most important events:
The year begins with Danzainfiera, the largest international event dedicated to dance, every February in Florence.
Every year, over 14 pavilions and 20,000 dancers take to the stages at Fortezza da Basso. Professionals from all over the world gather in Florence to celebrate the world of dance with lessons, shows, competitions, stands, auditions and much more. Over fifteen editions of Dif have transformed the 65,000 square metres of the Fortress located just five minutes from the station into one of the most significant encounters for those who live to dance.
The Florence Dance Performing Art Festival, now in its 35thd edition, from 20th June to 20th July 2024, is a true institution in terms of Florentine and world dance. Marga Nativo, former prima ballerina of the Teatro Comunale di Firenze, and Keith Ferrone, are the founders of this event, featuring performances from the Florence Dance Center school. The festival involves world-famous artists and dance companies, offering a top-tier programme that takes place over the summer in one of the most important and charming places in Florence: the large cloister of Santa Maria Novella.
As the summer ends, the ballet season at Teatro Verdi begins again. The largest Italian theatre in Tuscany for 160 years shows classics like Romeo and Juliet, the Nutcracker and Sleeping Beauty.
