New Year’s events in Florence, 2023

Six squares are involved in a widespread New Year's Eve, promoted by the Municipality of Florence and coordinated by MUS.E with the support of Toscana Energia, with events aimed at every type of public: in addition to Piazza della Signoria, there will be a party in Piazza Santissima Annunziata with the jazz of Circolo Exwide, in Piazza San Giovanni with the gospel choirs of Musart, in Piazza Santa Croce with the Toscana Classica orchestra, in Piazza del Carmine with the pop orchestra of Anfiteatro 2010 and in Piazza Santo Spirito and Oltrarno with the Music Pool traveling marching band.

In Piazza della Signoria, the arengario of Palazzo Vecchio will be the heart of New Year's Eve and will host a show starring Diodato, a famous Italian singer-songwriter who has already won the Sanremo Festival and will perform in a selection of songs from his repertoire. Thanks to the collaboration with the Andrea Bocelli Foundation - Philanthropic Institution, Andrea Paris, ABF Advocate and comedian-magician directly from the Zelig stage, will also perform on the same stage, the singer and songwriter Cecille who has performed several times alongside Andrea Bocelli and is a veteran from a very recent performance at the White House for the First Lady. Also scheduled are performances by the saxophonist Eleonora Fiorentini, the pianist Xing Chang, and the opera singers Gianpiero Delle Grazie, Antonio Mandrillo and Martina Tragni, talents from the ABF Masterclasses of Opera Singing and Chamber Music for Piano and Winds. The aim of this collaboration between the city of Florence and the Foundation is to demonstrate the common commitment to the empowerment and valorisation of young people and talents by creating opportunities for visibility and sharing.

In Piazza San Giovanni the 'Gospel Choirs' of Musart will feature three groups representing local and international contemporary gospel, The Pilgrims, the Academy Singers Choir and the Maryland Gospel Singers, with an artistic expression capable of speaking to everyone, fitting into the better in the context of Piazza del Duomo. The evening's countdown will be entrusted to Eva Edili, journalist and radio speaker. Appointment from 10pm to 1am.

In Piazza del Carmine 'The Night of Desires' by Anfiteatro 2010 will combine music, entertainment and celebration to celebrate the arrival of the new year by collecting the wishes and hopes for 2024 expressed by the Florentine citizens and tourists present in the city on 31 December, which will be published on a specific social channel and read in the square during the event. The event will be hosted by the Radio Bruno radio network. Appointment from 10pm to 1am.

In Oltrarno and Piazza Santo Spirito 'Oltrarno on the road' by Music Pool will enrich New Year's Eve in Florence with the participation of three marching bands, in order to spread the music through the streets of Oltrarno and Piazza Santo Spirito. The three musical groups Fantomatik Orchestra, Sound Street Band and Bandão will meet the public of Florence and the numerous tourists present through the particular modality of quality street music. Appointment from 10pm to 1am.

In Piazza Santissima Annunziata 'Jazz New Year' by Circolo Exwide will present two absolute protagonists of Tuscan and national jazz: Nico Gori, who will be performing with his famous "swing tentet" formation in the name of the very classic dance music of the 1930s, and Gianluca Petrella, acclaimed instrumentalist and composer, also with an extensive background and a sound that ranges between jazz and electronics. Appointment from 10pm to 1am.

In Piazza Santa Croce 'Il Grande Ballo degli Orsi' of Toscana Classica will pay homage to maestro Sergio Staino with the involvement of three dance schools (Songo Bongo, Tango Firenze and Dance Lab). The Tuscany Classica orchestra, together with the Ensemble Quattro Corde orchestra of Odessa (Ukraine) directed by Maestro Taddeo, will offer music in classical Viennese style, including polkas, mazurkas and tangos with homage to Piazzolla and traditional waltzes. Appointment from 10.45pm until 1am.
