April 2024 in Florence: Be.Floral

Events and experiences this April with Destination Florence.

Open your senses: April is when Florence becomes floral. According to an ancient legend, the city of the lily, Florentia, was founded by the Romans on the occasion of the celebrations for the arrival of spring (Floralia), the time of year when its meadows and hills were covered with blooming lilies.

So, if you’ve decided to visit Florence in April, expect wonderful days surrounded by greenery and art in the spectacular gardens, take trips out of town to embrace spring in the Chianti, and enjoy wellness experiences in Tuscany! Tip of the month: it’s the perfect time of year to visit Medici Pratolino Park, a few minutes by car or bus from the centre of Florence! Giambologna's majestic Apennine Giant, the grotto of the Medici Villa Demidoff, works of art, hectares of parkland and a magical atmosphere awaits you.

APRIL EXPERIENCES RECOMMENDED BY DESTINATION FLORENCE

Needless to say, the four experiences we’ve selected for April are a celebration of nature, gardens and the outdoors:

  • A tour to discover the Boboli Gardens, the most famous of the Italian Renaissance gardens, and the Bardini Gardens with the spectacular wisteria-covered baroque steps (perfect in spring!), from which you can enjoy an amazing view of Florence.

  • A picnic with typical, zero-km products in the largest botanical garden in Italy at Fattoria di Maiano, a green paradise close to the centre of Florence.

  • An excursion suitable for everyone among the majestic fir trees and beech forests surrounding the Vallombrosa Abbey, a mystical forest and nature reserve with infinite secrets.

  • For those seeking a little comfort, a sidecar is the ideal mode of transportation this spring! Settle in and set off in discovery of the Chianti area.
