THE GRAND “BEATO ANGELICO” EXHIBITION IN FLORENCE

From September 26, 2025, to January 25, 2026, "Beato Angelico" will be on display at Palazzo Strozzi and the Museo di San Marco.

Starting September 26, 2025, Florence hosts an extraordinary exhibition dedicated to Fra Giovanni da Fiesole, known as Beato Angelico, an emblematic figure of 15th-century art. This unmissable event ranks among the top things to do in Florence for art enthusiasts and admirers of the great masters, and will be held in two venues: Palazzo Strozzi , a Renaissance hub for major exhibitions in the city, and the Museo di San Marco The fascinating convent complex where the friar-painter lived and worked is now home to the world's largest collection of his works.

The “Beato Angelico” Exhibition 


The exhibition, co-organized with the Regional Directorate of National Museums of Tuscany (Italian Ministry of Culture), celebrates one of the founding fathers of Renaissance art. Spanning two venues— Palazzo Strozzi and the Museo di San Marco —the exhibition explores Beato Angelico’s work, development, and artistic influence in dialogue with painters such as Lorenzo Monaco , Masaccio , and Filippo Lippi , as well as sculptors like Lorenzo Ghiberti , Michelozzo , and Luca della Robbia .

This unique event also enables the restoration of numerous masterpieces through a broad conservation effort and brings together, for the first time in over two centuries, altarpieces by one of Italy’s greatest masters, long dispersed across the world. The result of more than four years of work, this project represents a cultural and scholarly achievement of exceptional importance. It unites paintings, drawings, sculptures, and illuminated manuscripts from prestigious museums, libraries, and collections—both Italian and international—as well as from churches and local institutions of major historical significance.

Celebrated for his distinctive artistic language that bridges the late Gothic tradition with the principles of early Renaissance art, Beato Angelico (c. 1395–1455) is renowned for his mastery of perspective and the use of light to shape sacred space. The exhibition offers an unprecedented opportunity to explore the depth of his artistic innovation, deeply rooted in religious contemplation and the human experience.


Curated by Carl Brandon Strehlke, Curator Emeritus of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Beato Angelico marks the first major exhibition dedicated to the artist in Florence in seventy years . It also fosters a unique dialogue between institutions and the local community through the collaboration of Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi, the Regional Directorate of National Museums of Tuscany, and the Museo di San Marco. The San Marco section will be co-curated by Stefano Casciu (Regional Director of National Museums of Tuscany – MiC) and Angelo Tartuferi (former Director of the Museo di San Marco).
