PATH OF THE ETRUSCANS - From Volterra to Fiesole #slowtourism

What you will find

The route starts from Volterra, continues towards the connection with the Via Francigena near Fucecchio, and then crosses a territory where the typical characteristics of the Tuscan agricultural landscape remain, such as the cultivation of vines and olive trees with the typical dry-stone walls of hills between the Montalbano and the Arno around Cerreto Guidi and Vinci, or the chestnut woods on the highest hills.

Continuing eastwards, you reach the fulcrum of the route, where there are numerous historical and archaeological remains related to the Etruscan civilization such as the Montereggi archaeological park, the Boschetti and Montefortini tumuli, and where some archaeological museums are located. The path that goes from Signa to Florence uses the existing pedestrian and bicycle mobility system along the Arno river, from which, at the San Donnino locality, there is a detour that leads to the Etruscan center of Gonfienti.

The main route, after passing through the historic center of Florence, where the national archaeological museum is located, finally reaches Fiesole, an important center since the Etruscan era. Within the municipality of Fiesole, starting from the hamlet of San Domenico, the minor municipal road starts, consisting of via Vecchia Fiesolana, via Dupré, via Bandini and via Sant'Ansano, (which is occupied by a portion of it a long staircase).

These routes allow you to reach some Etruscan remains such as the tomb in Via del Bargellino and the sections of walls on the north side and on the west side of the city.
The indicated viability gives the possibility to realize a double connection, which allows the circuit around the hill of San Francesco, accessing on the side of the Medici villa and the archaeological area and following the path of the ancient Etruscan walls on the Florentine side of the slope.

The total length of the trail is 90 km.
