You will start from Palazzo Pitti right in front of the painting where Hayez portrayed the two Foscari, protagonists of the opera scheduled for the evening. Inside the Gallery of Modern Art, you will follow a path between historical protagonists and great art interpreters in the period that precedes and then witness the process of Italian unification in the 19th century.

You will continue to Piazza della Signoria, in front of the equestrian statue of Cosimo I, and you will end at Palazzo Strozzi to hear the story of the exile of the families who dared to challenge the power of the Medici in the Renaissance.

THE OPERA: starting time 8.00pm

I Due Foscari by Giuseppe Verdi is built entirely on the contrast between paternal love and love of country of the Doge Francesco Foscari, and on the pains of his son Jacopo, unjustly accused of murder and of having plotted against the Republic of Venice. The protagonist of the opera at the Teatro del Maggio is one of the most famous opera singers of all time, Placido Domingo, in the role of Francesco Foscari with the Choir and Orchestra of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino directed by Carlo Rizzi.
