FLORENCE DANCE & PERFORMING ARTS FESTIVAL - XXX edition

The Florence Dance Festival Performing Arts, under the artistic direction of the founders Marga Nativo and Keith Ferrone, reached its 30th edition in 2019.

From 30 JUNE to 3 AUGUST the festival returns to being one of the protagonists of the Florentine Summer in a special space: the Great Cloister of Santa Maria Novella. One of the most precious jewels of Florence, a place-symbol of the city that turns into an exclusive stage to witness the encounter between traditional culture and contemporary languages.

The program presents events and extraordinary evenings with very important dance companies from the Italian and world wide scene. First of the highlights is The Special Event: two evenings with the Etoile Sergei Polunin with "Sacré", dedicated to Vaslav Nijinsky, an original choreography by the enfant prodige of the stars of world dance (23, 24 July).

The international project FLORENCE isREAL, with residences of the best Israeli dance companies: Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company with "360°" choreography by Rami Be’er (1 July); Roy Assaf Dance with "Boys" (17 July) and the great Batsheva The Young Ensemble that presents "Decadance" by Ohad Naharin (20 July).

From New York arrives the grandiose Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo , the most famous and unique corps du ballet en travestie in "Swan Lake & Other Classics" (9 July). From Singapore T.H.E. Dance Company (The Human Expression Dance Company), founded by the choreographer Swee Boon Kuiki, with "Invisible Habitudes" (6 July) in collaboration with Fabbrica Europa.

The new generation of dance an evening consisting of two shows: New York Dance Project with the choreography of Robert Joffrey and Toscana Dance Hub with the choreography by Roy Assaf and Kristina Alleyne (21 July). From Russia the Russian State Ballet with "Swan Lake" the Classic ballet par excellence (August 3).

From Italy there will be a selection of the best contemporary dance companies and a special focus will be dedicated to new generations of artists, as: the new production inspired by Leonardo da Vinci for the young FloDance 2.0 company in "Leonardo il visionario" with the choreography by Marga Nativo (11 July); the Zappalà Danza Company with "Instrument Jam" choreography and direction by Roberto Zappalà (30 July); Fabula Saltica with the choreography of Claudio Ronda in “Cenerentola. An Italian story" (1 August); Kinesis Contemporary Dance Company in "Big Bang" with the choreography of Angelo Egarese (12 July); Spotlight on Coreography (15 July) a triptych composed by the performances of Irina Baldini, Arianna Benedetti and Gigi Nieddu ; ETI | Encuentro Tanguero Italiano with three evenings dedicated to dance and milonguera culture (26, 27, 28 July).

For Music and Orchestra performances, the usual appointments with the Florentine Chamber Orchestra conducted by Maestro Giuseppe Lanzetta return with: "Tribute to Astor Piazzolla" (3 July); "Humoresque" (7 July); "Music from the big screen" (July 13) and the original "Sinfonica Milonguera" on tribute to Tango and milongas for the ETI evening | Encuentro Tanguero Italiano (27 July). 

Collateral events are proposed by the Festival too: Meet the artists at Uffizi live, the meetings with some of Florence IsREAL's prestigious guests at the Uffizi Galleries and the Media Dance on Film review , at the La Compagnia Theater in collaboration with Fondazione Sistema Toscana and Mediateca Regional to rediscover the link between Dance & Cinema with true cult movies.
