EVENT DESCRIPTION
The Festival dei Popoli - International documentary film festival - reaches its 65th edition and collects, documents and promotes documentary cinema. Founded in 1959 by a group of human science scholars, anthropologists, sociologists, ethnologists and mass media scientists, the Italian institute Festival dei Popoli has been involved in the promotion and study of social documentary cinema for over sixty years.

The tribute scheduled for the 65th edition of the Festival dei Popoli, which will be held in Florence from 2 to 10 November under the artistic direction of Alessandro Stellino and organizational direction of Claudia Maci, will be dedicated to the Hungarian director Judit Elek. The retrospective, the first in Italy dedicated to the filmmaker, was born from the collaboration between the Festival dei Popoli and Calliope Arts Foundation on the three-year project "Women Trailblazers in Documentary Cinema", aimed at the rediscovery and celebration of female directors whose work has been underestimated or forgotten During the years.

The Festival dei Popoli and Calliope Arts Foundation - a foundation committed to promoting and enhancing the contribution of women to the visual arts, literature, science, music and social history - will bring one of the most important directors in Europe to Florence. Judit Elek will be in Florence to meet the public during a masterclass and to present her films, all in versions restored by the Film Archive of the National Film Institute of Hungary, works that have told the story of her country during the second half of ' 900, from the Holocaust to the Cold War, from life during the Soviet regime to the explosion of 1968.
