EVENT DESCRIPTION
The VII edition of Black History Month Florence broadens its horizons by transforming itself into Black History Fuori le Mura. The scope of the initiative grows thanks to the synergy with the work of similar collectives operating in the cities of Bologna, Turin and Rome, but also by aiming for new collaborations abroad.

Black History Fuori le Mura is the result of a collective organization that brings together associations, individuals and institutions, generating a shared space for the co-promotion of Black History Month events. This platform wants to offer itself as the ideal place for the relaunch of a national and international reflection on the recovery of Black History.

This year MAD will present three different exhibitions co-produced with BHFM, spread across all its spaces: Justin Randolph Thompson, co-founder and director of Black History Month Florence, artist Nidhal Chamekh and researcher Jessica Sartiani.

This edition of the BHFM presents FUGA as a thematic title: a meditation on the transience of the concept of Blackness (Moten, Harney 2013) and on the instability that permeates geo-cultural realities, blurring the boundaries between local and transnational. It is also a reflection on the distrust that persists in the Italian context regarding peoples and cultures of African origin, which pushes many to flee.
