What you will find

The Medici are the protagonists of the city history from the fifteenth to the eighteenth century, they still are famous for promoting the art in all of its forms: their extraordinary art collections of precious objects, books and manuscripts, rarities and curiosities have been preserved to the present day and are the basis of many of the most important cultural institutions in Florence.

We are now going to discover and learn more about their lives. Our itinerary starts at Palazzo Pitti, the immense palace, bought by the Medici Family in 1549 and that became the chief residence of the ruling families of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany. Nowadays, we can visit the Galleria Palatina, that contains a large ensemble of over 500 principally Renaissance paintings, which were once part of the Medici’s and their successor’s private art collection.

We cross the river to reach the oldest Medici’s dwelling, Palazzo Vecchio, symbol of civil power, its current aspect is due to the great works of renovation of middle decades of the sixteenth century, in order to adapt to the new function of the ducal palace which Cosimo I de 'Medici had intended. After the transfer of the Medici court in the Pitti Palace, Palazzo Vecchio continued to host various government offices.

We will then leave each other admiring the breathtaking Piazza della Signoria, known also as open air museum.
