What you will find

Discover the places tied to Florence's highest citizen: Dante. The center of the visit will be the "Dante district" where you will visit the spots where the Great Poet spent his life before the exile.

FULL PROGRAM

The guided tour begins in the Dante district (via Dante Alighieri), where you will admire the typical architecture of the time, in particular the medieval tower houses, still visibles to this day.

Then you will visit Dante's house-museum, nineteenth-century replication of the poet's house, where you will breathe the atmosphere of a medieval residence. Actually, Dante's birthplace is in Piazza San Martino, where you can also admire two famous original towers: Torre della Castagna and Torre dei Cerchi.

After, you will visit some of Dante's dearest places, such as the Buonomini Oratory of San Martino - church of the Alighieri and Donati families, where the poet got married with his wife Gemma Donati - Church of Santa Margherita dei Cerchi - church of the Portinari's family, the lineage of his muse Beatrice and her birthplace, Palazzo Portinari-Salviati.

The tour will end with a breathtaking view on Ponte Vecchio, Santa Trinita Bridge. The painter Henry Holiday imagined here the encounter that suggested to Dante the immortal lines of Vita Nova "So kind and so honest she seems… - Tanto gentile e tanto onesta pare” that will be recited by your guide.
