Dedicate a day to discovering Florence following the footsteps of the famous Dante Alighieri.
Born in Florence in 1265, Dante Alighieri is considered one of the greatest poets on the Italian scene and remembered as the father of the modern language.
The itinerary will follow the most significant events in Dante's life in Florence, from his birth, to the visit of his home, to the meeting with Beatrice, love of his life and inspiring muse that has been well sung in his works, especially in Vita Nova and in his majestic Divine Comedy. Particular attention will also be paid to museums and artworks created in his honor.

FULL PROGRAM

Together with your guide, you will visit some churces and museums where Dante's presence can still be felt. 


The tour begins in Piazza Duomo. You will visit the Cathedral to admire its most famous details and its unique history and find out how Dante has been celebrated inside it over the centuries.

 

Next, you will visit the neighbourhood where Dante was born and raised, and you will visit the Dante’s House Museum. Near his home, you will also see the "Sasso di Dante", famous in the chronicles of the time and spectator of the changes of the city.

 

You will continue with a visit to the church of Santa Margherita dei Cerchi, that dates back to the 11th century. Although it is known as "Dante's church" as it was frequented by his family and it was here that the poet formalized his marriage with Gemma Donati, it actually seems that Beatrice was the real protagonist of this place.

 

It will be a great thrill to cross the Santa Trinita bridge where it is said that Dante met Beatrice for the first time. From here, you can admire Ponte Vecchio, wondering the graceful muse seen through Dante's eyes, a young man intensely dedicated to composing works for his beloved, the dream of an eternal and ideal love.

 

As a last final stop, you will make a special visit to the Santa Croce district where, in addition to the famous artisan shops also in the Dante period, you will admire the square, the cathedral and the the Monument of Dante, while outside, his severe statue with a frowning gaze that was built in 1865 to celebrate the 600th anniversary of his birth.

 

The Florentines have longed for Dante to return to the city after his exile, but this dream has never come true.

 

You will end our journey to discover Dante with a nice walk among the wonders of the historic center of Florence, following the footsteps of Dante, you will arrive at Palazzo Vecchio, where you will be able to admire the Hall of the 500, the noble district and their secret passages. Finally, you will visit Dante's study and his famous Mask.
