JR, the most famous contemporary French artist in the world, has rethought Palazzo Strozzi with The Wound, a monumental new site-specific installation designed to trigger a thought-provoking debate on accessibility to cultural sites in the era of Covid-19. The Wound will remain on desplay until 22/08/2021.

28 mt. tall and 33 mt. wide, this monumental installation creates a kind of visual gash in the façade of Palazzo Strozzi, opening up onto a vision of an interior at once real and imaginary achieved with a black and white photographic collage that is such a typical feature of the artist's style. The work is built along the lines of an anamorphosis, an illusionistic game in which, observed from a specific viewpoint, various areas of the Palazzo Strozzi – the colonnade in the courtyard, an imaginary exhibition hall containing iconic works from Florence's artistic heritage and the library of the Istituto Nazionale di Studi sul Rinascimento – open up before one's very eyes.
