EVENT DESCRIPTION:
The Balagàn Café returns to Florence for the twelfth consecutive year. Until September 5th, the garden of the Synagogue will host the special summer cultural event every Thursday organized by the Jewish Community of Florence and the Tuscany Jewish Network Committee in collaboration with the Jewish Museum of Florence and with the support of the Tuscany Region. The theme chosen to accompany the series of meetings - which will culminate with the European Day of Jewish Culture on Sunday 15 September - is: "Where peace begins".
The meetings are of absolute importance: Balagàn's commitment to generating dialogue and mutual understanding is divided into a series of conversations, all between 8.30pm and 9.30pm, with figures of absolute importance. Among these Father Bernardo Gianni (Thursday 27 June), promoter of the silent march for Peace on 23 October, a point of reference for a Florence committed to the path of pleasure and dialogue. Last Thursday, Edna Angelica Calò Livne, an Israeli activist nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, spoke from Israel with a meeting and an interactive performance with the public, a conversation with Marisa Nicchi and other members of "Women Together for Peace" (July 11). There was a conversation with the philosopher Davide Assael last Thursday (18 July), the next one will be with the historian Claudio Vercelli (25 July). Other meetings include the one with the famous Italian-Israeli writer and pacifist Manuela Dviri (1 August) and the psychologist and expert in the fight against anti-Semitism David Meghnagi (29 August).
Obviously there will be no shortage of music which will complete the meetings with film screenings and workshops. As an extremely eloquent example, a prominent event: the Balagàn will bring to Florence, for the final evening of 5 September, the famous musician Noa, a voice recognized throughout the world not only for her artistic merits and her extraordinary popularity, but for the commitment to peace and in particular to dialogue between Israelis and Palestinians.
As per tradition, the Saperi&Sapori aperitivos initiative accompanies the evenings, this year dedicated to Jean-Michel Carasso, chef and inspirer of a thousand recipes which in recent years have accompanied and given flavor to Thursday evenings in the shadow of the dome of the Synagogue. Recommended offer 15 euros (reservation required via email saperiesapori2024@gmail.com, limited places).
Finally, as always, there will be guided tours of the Synagogue and the Jewish Museum every Thursday at 7.30 pm at a cost of 10 euros (reservations required on 055 2989879, or in person at the Synagogue ticket office in via Farini, 6 ).
