Produced by Quelli della Compagnia, the 50 Days was founded in Florence in 2007 to give a "single playbill," and a unified venue, to all major Florentine film festivals with an international vocation.
Festivals today fulfill an important function for the diffusion of art cinema, offering visibility and a possibility of "alternative" distribution to those films that do not find space in the traditional chain. The 50 Days of Cinema festivals are:
France Odeon, Festival of Contemporary French Cinema; Images and Sounds of the World - Ethnomusical Film Festival; International Film & Women's Festival; Lo Schermo dell'Arte Film Festival; Florence Queer Festival; Festival dei Popoli - International Documentary Film Festival; River to River Florence - Indian Film Festival; Una Finestra sul Nord - Finnish Film Festival; and NICE City of Florence Prize.
