In exchange for the prestigious loan of Masaccio's San Giovenale Triptych for the Beato Angelico exhibition, the Regional Directorate of National Museums of Tuscany of the Ministry of Culture – Museo di San Marco, in collaboration with the Masaccio Museum and the Chianti and Valdarno Museum System, has organized a small but valuable exhibition focusing on two masterpieces by Paolo di Dono, known as Paolo Uccello (1397-1475), one of the leading figures of the Florentine Renaissance.
An opportunity to admire the detached fresco of the Madonna and Child from the Casa del Beccuto, which reveals a possible early relationship with the Valdarno painter Gherardo Starnina, originally from Gaville (Figline and Incisa Valdarno), and the predella from Avane (Cavriglia) with Christ in Pietà between the Virgin and Saint John the Evangelist, which bears, in the center, an elegant inscription in capital red letters with the date 1452. Both are kept in the Museum of San Marco and are characterized by strong ties to the Valdarno area.
