The new project by Destination Florence and Teatro del Maggio presents four exclusive dates of opera and dedicated itineraries.
Set your imagination soaring with Mozart, Placido Domingo, Hayez, Greek mythology and, of course, Florence. Destination Florence and Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino have joined forces to create MaggioMusicArt, a new initiative that’s aimed at all opera lovers and anyone who wants to enjoy a complete cultural experience that combines the emotion of opera and the city.
Four exclusive dates with limited places see operas staged at Teatro del Maggio and Teatro della Pergola, introduced by wonderful themed walking tours through the streets of Florence and inside museums. Purchase one of the MaggioMusicArt packages, only on sale through Destination Florence, and head off on your walking tour with an expert guide with a ticket for the opera.

May 15, 2022 - The Marriage of Figaro
A guided walk lasting an hour and a half with an expert licensed guide will introduce you to The Marriage of Figaro on stage at the Teatro della Pergola. You will begin from the hotel where the young Amadeus stayed in Florence with his father. Here, you will hear about the Camerata de 'Bardi and how this group of intellectuals laid the foundations for the melodrama that spread from Florence throughout Europe, and much more.
The tour ends right at the Teatro della Pergola, where you will have the opportunity to visit the theatre and learn about its history before enjoying The Marriage of Figaro, one of Mozart's most well-known masterpieces, famous for its bursting vitality.

May 31, 2022 - I Due Foscari
Before attending the opera at the Teatro del Maggio starring Placido Domingo in the role of Francesco Foscari, you will stroll along the streets of Florence listening to stories about the powerful, illustrated through an artistic and narrative journey. As part of the tour, admire Hayez's "I due Foscari” painting on display at the Galleria d'Arte Moderna in Palazzo Pitti, together with an expert guide.
Verdi's opera is built entirely on the contrast between paternal love and the love of country, explored through Doge Francesco Foscari and the punishments of his son Jacopo, who was unjustly accused of murder and of having plotted against the Republic of Venice.

June 10, 2022 - Ariadne auf Naxos
Visit the National Archaeological Museum, following a common thread through the works that best illustrate mythology and the role of women in the ancient world. By choosing the most significant works among the numerous spectacular ancient works, you will get to know the myth of Ariadne and you will be able to observe the importance of mythological representation on Greek and Etruscan pottery, and in the marble and bronze statues.
The work titled Ariadne auf Naxos by Strauss and Hofmannsthall delves into the myth of Ariadne, who over the centuries inspired many musicians from Monteverdi onwards. The opera takes an ironic and detached perspective, transferring the action into a hybrid dimension that blends both the moving and the comic.

July 6, 2022 - Acis et Galatée
Before attending the opera at the Teatro del Maggio in Florence, in the company of a qualified and expert guide, you will go down the Arno river aboard a small boat of the Renai for a short journey through the city on the strip of water that from boarding to Piazza Mentana leads to the Ponte Santa Trinita passing under the Ponte Vecchio.
The lapping of the water will serve as a background to tell the poetic story of the nymph Galatea, of her love for the shepherd boy Aci opposed by the monstrous Cyclops Polyphemus.
