Live music around Florence
Firenze Rocks, Musart, MaggioMusicArt, Estate Fiesolana: all the music events this summer.
The live music scene in Florence always kicks off in May, with Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, the oldest and most prestigious operatic and classical music festival in Italy. This year, Teatro del Maggio, in partnership with Destination Florence, offers you the exclusive MaggioMusicArt experience a campaign to bring you closer to live music at the theatre and the city of Florence: themed tours and opera through four dates for sale only on Destination Florence.
The time has come for musical hurricane Firenze Rocks, the super rock festival that sets Florence shaking with amazing concerts held at the Visarno Area, in the Cascine park. The festival returns at long last in its live format in 2022 with a fabulous lineup: Green Day on 16 June, Muse on 17 June, Red Hot Chili Peppers on 18 June and Metallica on 19 June. (The Vasco Rossi concert scheduled for 10 June 2020 has been changed to 3 June 2022. Tickets that have already been purchased will remain valid for the new date, which will no longer be part of the festival lineup.)
In June, the Estate Fiesolana gets underway at Fiesole’s Teatro Romano, the oldest outdoor multidisciplinary festival in Italy. Music and theatre, lots of artists and shows in a captivating location. The festival finishes in late August.
The sixth MusArt Festival (from 16 to 26 July) returns to its usual haunt of piazza Santissima Annunziata to celebrate the best of music and famous artists, including Roberto Bolle and friends, a long-standing friend of the festival, in addition to LP and Achille Lauro, which will add some new flavor to MusArt nights.
Not far from Florence, towards the end of August, the Beat Festival returns to Empoli (24-28 August), the rock festival held in Prato della Serravalle with tons of concerts, street food, sport, skateboarding, craft markets and plenty of other entertainment for young and old alike.
The season draws to a close with the Decibel Open Air, a real elettronic music marathon at Visarno Arena with Paul Kalkbrenner live show and dj from all over the word and also Firenze Jazz Fringe Festival (FJFF). During the five days of the festival, more than 200 jazz musicians and artists will bring 50 performances to some of Florence’s liveliest Oltrarno neighborhoods: San Niccolò, piazza Santo Spirito, Basilica di San Felice and the riverside roads.
In a nutshell: Florence is here, gearing up for an extraordinary summer of music that cannot be missed, with concerts ranging from classical music to rock, pop and jazz. Guaranteed fun!
